My Story with Mas Tarrés

Rural tourism in the Empordà and Costa Brava: a refuge created with love and dedication

When I met my husband in 2007, our life began an adventure that would shape our journey. Soon after, we decided to settle in a property of his grandmother in Madremanya, an isolated place surrounded by olive trees, forests, and pure nature. There, amidst the silence of the countryside, I felt in my essence: connected to the land, the simple life, and the calm that only rural life can offer.

The estate had two properties: ours, and next to it, a large farmhouse also belonging to David’s grandmother, divided into four small houses where different families lived. The house was humble, unreformed, worn by time, but full of history and potential. I worked as a house cleaner, while he worked as a blacksmith, and together we cared for my young son.

It was then that the idea came to me: renovate the house for vacation rental. I wanted to harness the property’s potential, combine our effort with my passion for nature, and create something of our own that would bring life to the farmhouse. I proposed the idea to my husband, and together we embarked on this adventure that would change our lives.

The first steps of a dream

In 2013, we took the first step: opening our first apartment, La Olivera, for 2 guests. Every brick and detail represented hours of effort and dedication. The following year, 2014, we renovated and opened La Acàcia, with capacity for 4 guests. It was intense work: balancing outside jobs, caring for my son, and dedicating all free time and weekends to transforming the farmhouse.

In 2015, our daughter was born, a moment of joy that coincided with building the pool, an oasis of peace and tranquility that became the heart of our guests’ happiest moments. Every project was a challenge, but also a learning experience and motivation to keep going.

In 2016, we opened El Pi, for 4 guests. Each renovation was another step in our story, a joint effort turning forgotten spaces into welcoming, vibrant places. During these years, our children grew surrounded by nature and the “friends” who came each week with guests, creating shared memories that are part of Mas Tarrés’ essence.

In 2023, we completed the project with L’Alzina, for 2 guests, reflecting the experience and passion we’ve poured into every corner of this estate.

Mas Tarrés today

Today, Mas Tarrés is more than a rural house: it reflects our life, our bold decisions, and everything we’ve invested to merge nature, history, and the warmth of the farmhouse into an authentic refuge.

It’s a space for visitors to feel peace, tranquility, and connection with nature, enjoy rural getaways in Girona, the Empordà, and Costa Brava, and experience a place built with effort, care, and patience.

Each apartment tells a story: ours and that of the guests who stay a few days. Mas Tarrés is a legacy of rural life, where history, family, and nature intertwine to offer unique, intimate, and memorable experiences.

Mas Tarrés és la nostra vida feta casa: un refugi que creix amb la natura i amb cada persona que decideix compartir el seu temps i la seva història amb nosaltres.
